Trying to plan your move in Oregon? We offer some information that may help you select a qualified Oregon mover.

Licensed Oregon movers
The best advice when it comes to selecting movers is to hire a reliable moving company. But how do you know in advance which moving service is trustworthy?

First, make sure that the moving company you want to hire is licensed by the state of Oregon. The Oregon Department of Transportation has a list of about 80 licensed movers. You can find this list here: www.oregon.gov/ODOT/MCT/MOVERS.shtml

The list is divided into two categories: City to City movers and Local movers. City to City movers are licensed to move your goods from one city to another in Oregon, while local Oregon movers only have licenses for certain areas.

Pricing for local and intrastate moves in Oregon
If you’re moving in Oregon and your new home is less than 30 miles away, you will probably be charged an hourly rate. For moves over 30 miles, the price depends on total shipment weight and the distance of the move, plus packing materials and other moving services.

In Oregon, the amount a mover can be charged is regulated by the Oregon Department of Transportation. You can find out more about these prices and check if your Oregon moving company is licensed by going to ODOT’s web site or by calling (503) 378-5987.

Getting moving estimates in Oregon
The state of Oregon requires that written estimates come within 10% of the final cost. If the written estimate you receive from an Oregon mover turns out to cost you more than 110% of the written cost, you can call the ODOT to file a complaint. However, beware that you’ll still need to pay the full amount eventually because estimates in Oregon are non-binding.

Long distance moving from Oregon
If you want to move from Oregon to another state, you’ll still need to select an Oregon-based moving company to help you out. Unlike local or intrastate moves, interstate moves from Oregon are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
