Moving in or out of Maine? Finding a reliable moving company is your first step.
Selecting a Maine moving company
One of the most important steps is to make sure that your mover is licensed. Since Maine doesn’t have a mover licensing program, we suggest checking for the US DOT license number. This license is issued by the US Department of Transportation.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration offers an excellent “Company snapshot” service called SAFER (Safety and Fitness Electronic Records System)
On the SAFER web site, you can get information about a moving company’s license status as well as a safety profile and other details.
Once you select a licensed Maine mover, it may also be a good idea to check the Maine Better Business Bureau for problems. Even good, reliable movers can have a complaint or two on file with the BBB, but if you see constant or unresolved disputes, it may be time to look elsewhere.
We’ve all heard the cliché that moving is a stressful time. But if you select a moving company carefully in advance, you can make it much easier.
