Looking for a moving company in Georgia? There’s quite a bit of help available to assist you in selecting a mover that’s right for you.

Selecting Georgia movers
One of the first rules of selecting a moving service in Georgia – or anywhere – is to make sure that the mover is licensed. In Georgia, the Public Service Commission regulates all movers. Currently, Georgia’s PSC has over 200 registered movers for you to choose from.

Georgia also helpfully maintains a “consumer scorecard” for movers. You can visit PSC’s web site to get information about each Georgia mover licensed by the state. The available information includes the number of complains filed against the mover in the past two years and the number of moves done by a moving company.

Once you select a moving company, you can also use available state resources to check prices. All Georgia moves under 50 miles are based on hourly rates. A tariff schedule can be found here: Georgia Movers Tariffs. If you’re moving within the state of Georgia but your new home is over 50 miles away, your prices will be calculated based on the weight of the shipment and the distance of the move. Please refer to the above Georgia Movers Tariffs page for more information.

Georgia moving estimates
Even after you the prices approximately, it’s a good idea to ask your Georgia mover for a written moving estimate. A binding moving estimate means that you will pay the exact amount quoted by the mover. But even if you get a non-binding moving estimate in Georgia, the moving company cannot charge more than 110% of the quoted price. To learn how to get the most accurate estimate possible, please check out our article on moving estimates.

Georgia  long distance moving
If you need long distance movers and you’re moving out of state, you’ll still need to select a Georgia-based company. For more information on long distance movers regulations, please visit the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
