Congratulations on deciding to move! Each year, millions of Americans pack up their belongings and move locally or to another state.
Each year, many also fall prey to unregulated moving companies and their unscrupulous practices. How do you make sure that you’re not one of them?
Selecting Idaho movers
We recommend checking the credentials of the Idaho moving company you selected before signing any contracts. Even if you got the recommendation from a friend or family member, it’s good to know if the Idaho mover you’ll be working with is properly licensed.
First, check with the US Department of Transportation. You can do so by visiting Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s SAFER database. This useful database offers a “moving company snapshot” that can help you figure out if your Idaho moving service is licensed and what it’s safety record is like.
Another excellent place to check is Idaho’s Better Business Bureau. If the mover you’re looking at has constant or unresolved complaints, it may be time to look for someone else.
Yet another good resource is the American Moving and Storage Association. This is a nationwide moving association with a large membership list. To join, must meet certain requirements, such as minimum insurance coverage and licensing. That means that if your Idaho mover is a member, you can feel a bit more secure in your choice.
Long distance Idaho moving
Interstate moves from Idaho, as from any other state, are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). To find out more about rates and regulations for long distance movers, visit ProtectYourMove.gov.
